I N U V I K

Inuvik, meaning place of man, is a town located in the Northwest Territories on the eastern channel of the Mackenzie River, just below the Arctic Ocean and just above the Arctic Circle.  Forests filled with spruce trees and vast acres of arctic tundra sit atop the frozen permafrost in a place where the winters are long and dark and the summer's midnight sun lingers in the sky. Days were spent training dogs, dogsledding, exploring the landscape and being immersed in new traditions of arctic life. Inuvik’s feeling of sublimity and peace will follow me for the rest of my life.
